Megan Barber - Secretary
Megan Barber has been a school counselor for 15 years and is currently the PK-2nd Grade School Counselor at Morris Elementary School in Bondurant, IA. Prior to working for the Bondurant-Farrar Community School District, she was the elementary school counselor at West Marshall CSD (State Center, IA) for 7 years. Megan is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa (MAE - School Counseling) and Creighton University (BSW - Social Work). Along with her BFCSD K-12 School Counseling Team, she is a proud recipient of the ISCA District of Distinction Award, which recognizes exemplary K-12 school counseling programs. Megan is married (Josh) and has two wonderful children (Keatin and Will). She loves being in the company of kids, performing good deeds, running, lifting weights, and listening to podcasts/audiobooks!
Anna Rogers - Graduate Student Chair
Anna Rogers (School Counseling Student Chair) is in her first year as a graduate student at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. She enjoys spending time, playing board games, and chatting in coffee shops with family and friends. During her studies, she has developed a passion for school counseling and supporting students. Anna can’t wait to meet and collaborate with other students and professionals in the field!
Samantha Harms - Membership Chair
Samantha Harms is currently in her second year as an elementary school counselor at Cooper Elementary in the Fort Dodge School District. Prior to becoming a school counselor, Samantha was a Work-Based Learning Coordinator at Iowa Central Community College for four years, where she provided career exploration opportunities for K-12 students. Through that role, Samantha was inspired by fellow educators and found her passion for working with students. She desired to be able to help students more with their educational journey and the barriers they face led her to enroll at Buena Vista in the Professional School Counseling program. She graduated with her Masters in 2019 and also has an undergrad in Human Resources Management. Samantha is very passionate about the school counseling field and strives to meet the needs of the whole child. This is her first role with ISCA and is looking forward to working with the board to help provide opportunities to help grow the school counseling profession in Iowa. Samantha currently resides in Fort Dodge with her husband Pete and their daughter, Emma.
Sheila Kinyon-Johnson - Newsletter Chair
Sheila Kinyon-Johnson, Newsletter Chair, Starting the fall of 2020 Sheila will be in her 7th year as a professional school counselor with the Muscatine Community School District. Prior to her current occupation as a school counselor I was a high school AP Language and Literature instructor as well as a Speech and Debate coach. Her educational background consists of attending the University of Northern Colorado where she received her B.A. in both Journalism Mass Communication and Secondary Education in Speech Communication. From there, she attended the University of Alabama for a M.A. in Human Communication (Rhetoric) and the U of Iowa for a M.A. in Counselor Education.Sheila looks forward to collaborating with ASCA and ISCA board members to deliver up-to-date information both educational and informative information for school counselors through the quarterly newsletter
Open Seat Filled
In February 2020, Erin Lane was appointed to the ISCA board to fill the open seat for Vice President - Counselor Educator. Erin will serve the remaining year and half on the current term, until June 2021. The seat will be up for election in January 2021.
In January 2020, Paul Hayes was appointed to the ISCA board to fill the open seat for Vice President - Counselor Coordinator/Director. Paul will serve the remaining year on the current term, until June 2020. The seat will be up for election in January 2020.
