The President Elect-Elect serves on the ISCA Board for four years (July 1, 2021-June 30, 2025) in the following sequence of offices: President Elect-Elect, President Elect, President, and Immediate Past President.
The President Elect-Elect begins to familiarize him/herself with the work of the ISCA Board, the President Elect, the President, and the Immediate Past President, and assists them as needed in meeting their tasks. In addition, the President Elect-Elect is responsible for the conference program sessions, working with the conference program committee to recruit program proposals, select among the submissions, develop the final program for the conference, and to make all necessary communications with those who made proposal submissions. The President Elect-Elect also begins planning in January/February for the conference to be held the following year which he/she will chair as the President Elect.
While there are some meetings and individual responsibilities, many of the duties of board members are accomplished via telephone, e-mail, and webinars. All Governing Board members are expected to participate in three ISCA Board meetings held on Saturdays usually in January, April, and September, the annual conference in November in Des Moines, and the Summer Leadership Development Institute (LDI) usually held for two days in July (location to be determined).
The President and President-Elect also represent ISCA at the national ASCA conference, Delegate Assembly, and LDI which are held in the summer and financially supported by the ISCA Board. Board members may also be asked to represent ISCA at state or regional meetings, professional development, and other professional activities.
Members of the Governing Board do not receive any financial compensation for their service. However they are reimbursed for travel expenses and other costs. All Governing Board members are expected to pay for their ISCA conference registration, travel, and hotel.
Those who have been Board members have recognized the additional benefits of this leadership experience that include networking, learning about school counseling issues and strategies to advocate for the profession and for school counseling issues, collegiality, and professional and personal development.
