She participated in Iowa’s Postsecondary Strategy Institute in 2019, which resulted in a College/Career Readiness Team and the addition of College/Career Transition Counselor at her school. Sheryl has sense taken on the role of the CCTC and plans to use the opportunity to increase postsecondary outcomes for marginalized groups within her school. Linn-Mar High School’s 9/10 Associate Principal, Kimberly Buelt, had this to share about Sheryl: "Sheryl is a champion of Linn-Mar students ... She goes above and beyond on a daily basis, working to even the playing field within our building for all of these students. Students know that she cares about them and believes in them. She is a role model for all. She is the epitome of a student-centered leader within our building, throughout the district and state." Sheryl has truly led by example in all of her efforts with students and in professional development for herself, and for the role of school counselors everywhere. Congratulations Sheryl, on your recognition as Iowa School Counselor of the Year (Secondary)!
