ISCA Member Code of Conduct

ISCA upholds the highest standards of integrity, leadership, and professionalism for all school counseling professionals. School counselors are uniquely qualified to implement comprehensive programs addressing the academic, career, and social/emotional development needs of pre-K–12 students. They are leaders, advocates, collaborators, and consultants dedicated to creating systemic change and ensuring equitable educational outcomes. School counselors are committed to advocating for optimal learning environments that affirm all students' potential to learn and grow.

 

ISCA believes that all students deserve to be respected and treated with dignity, and to learn in physically and emotionally safe, inclusive, and healthy school environments free from any forms of violence or discrimination. School counselors ensure equitable access to counseling programs that promote holistic development and support students from diverse backgrounds and circumstances. This includes providing critical information on postsecondary options and enhancing self-development and affirmation within students' group identities. Students' privacy is honored to the greatest extent possible, balanced with the best interests of students, safety concerns, and legal obligations.

 

ISCA members believe in operating under ethical practices and support self-assessment, peer consultation, and performance appraisal for school counselors. It informs educational stakeholders of the expected behaviors and values of the profession, emphasizing the commitment to serving students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and communities with integrity and professionalism. Through adherence to these ethical standards, ISCA members strive to create equitable and supportive educational environments for all students.
